Marjar, Vahana Series

Part of the Vahana: The Ecology of Myths series, this notebook features Marjar (Cat), inspired by the sacred association between the cat and Goddess Shashthi, protector of children, motherhood, and wellbeing. Reimagined through the intricate visual language of Gond art, the artwork celebrates the cat as a symbol of care, coexistence, and the quiet bonds that connect humans and animals in everyday life. Drawing from mythology, ecology, and living cultural traditions, the design reflects how even the most familiar species play vital roles in sustaining both natural and social ecosystems.

This Notebook is made from water hyacinth, an invasive plant that is creatively repurposed to create sustainable and eco-friendly paper products. The pages of the notebook are also made from water hyacinth paper, giving it a unique and environmentally friendly feel. 

By using water hyacinth for the paper, we are able to create tree-free and chemical-free biodegradable paper with a low water footprint. Not only is this notebook environmentally friendly, but it also supports the community as the entire process is handmade by local women.
