Interwoven Lives: A Year of Shared Belonging
This calendar is a visual meditation on interconnectedness between humans and wildlife, culture and ecology, memory and responsibility. Conceived by Sachitra, the twelve artworks bring together India’s diverse landscapes through their iconic animals, traditional textiles, and a unifying artistic language inspired by Kalighat Patachitra, popularised globally by the late Shri Jamini Roy. Each month presents a flagship animal native to a specific Indian state, rendered as a human-like figure adorned in the region’s distinctive textile or craft tradition. This deliberate blending dissolves boundaries between species, geographies, and identities, reminding us that survival, ecological or cultural, is never isolated. Just as ecosystems thrive on balance, cultural traditions endure through care, continuity, and coexistence. Together, the twelve illustrations propose a holistic view of conservation. Protecting wildlife cannot be separated from safeguarding indigenous knowledge, artisanal livelihoods, and cultural memory. The calendar invites viewers to see conservation not as a distant cause, but as a shared inheritance; where forests, rivers, animals, crafts, and people are bound together in a living, breathing continuum.This is not just a calendar of months; it is a reminder that every passing day carries a responsibility to what we choose to protect, remember, and pass on.
